Bankruptcy FAQs

Will bankruptcy hurt my credit?

You want credit?  After what you are going Through?

Strangely enough bankruptcy improves your credit. Ask yourself: Can you borrow now? If you can, can you pay it back? You can buy a car about three months after discharge. You will get credit card applications while in bankruptcy. You can buy a house 18 months to two years after bankruptcy. Bankruptcy stays on your credit report for 10 years. It will affect your credit, but different loan officers and lenders react differently to it. If you are refused credit or the interest rate is too high, shop around.  See "Kiss of Death" (Bankruptcy Information Kiss of Death).
